dépaysement - a saudade do desencontro, is a second iteration of an essayistic documentary research series on mapping (micro) bodily-landscapes as subjectivities in search for regenerative postnatural ecosystems. It proposes a future world where you are invited ‘to look around, inhale all the way, expand and contract rhythmically until becoming a soft, sweaty rock, insides out, flirting face off in the flowering coloured lights’.
The video maps (micro) landscapes as subjectivities in search of regenerative postnatural ecosystems. Micro and macro worlds are interwoven with digitally generated images translated from scanning sculptural works and nature. The soundscape plays with movement and displacement, alluding to the ever-growing number of extinct species. In dialogue with the sound, a polyvocal voice-over plays with the overlapping of multiple voices to create one communal voice, neither here nor there, but always present.
In Dépaysement, the formal and material qualities of each sculpture were used to design custom synthesizers, while the spatial data resulting from 3D scanning informed the content and structure of the sonic compositions. The physical properties used for influencing the synthesizers' responses and textures allowed for the sonic translation to reflect the inherent variability of each source. The result is a series of compositions where the sculptures manifest a unique voice and distinct
auditory presence.
