Mergel is a short film (15 minutes) that was made entirely on location, the Curfsgroeve in South Limburg, and conveys this special place on the screen in an immersive way.
Mergel goes in search of the deep inside and what breathes in the dark. A silent journey to the heart of stone and the unexpected light that penetrates. The veins of the rock, the lost stones, the desolation and the small life to leave you there with an ever-changing view of the landscape.
A geological sound exploration that uncovers the resonance of subterranean spaces through field recordings and sonic manipulation.
