Benjamim

Writer: Tatiana RosaTatiana Rosa

Last month, I had the pleasure of being invited by my dear friends from movimento patrimonial pela música portuguesa - Catarina Távora & Duarte Martins—to take part in a concert from Catarina’s Benjamim cycle. It was a wonderful experience to return to preparing and re-working music by Portuguese composers, particularly Eurico Carrapatoso’s Le tombeau de Germaine Tailleferre. At the same time, I had the chance to further develop my own composition, Ondas Sonoras, inspired by the (non)audible chants of whales and the mysterious depths of the ocean.

Even more meaningful than the music itself was the company I had for this process. Sharing the stage again with such incredible musicians and dear friends made the experience all the more special.

*A heartfelt thank you to Philippe Marques for your sensitive and effortless piano playing, for making music together feel so natural, and for embracing my piece with such curiosity and openness.

*To Catarina, for not only the invitation but also for crafting a beautiful narrative around the concert, bringing the music even closer to the audience.

*And finally, to the audience itself—from babies to seniors—thank you for listening with such attention and curiosity.

The concert took place on the morning of February 22nd at Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal, and I couldn’t be more grateful for this moment of shared music and connection.

Until next time!
